A familiar demonic seductress has made a surprising cameo appearance in one of the funniest anime series of the Summer 2024 season. Fan-favorite character Rias Gremory from High School DxD recently stepped out of the spiritual realm of Kuoh Academy and into the digital world of anime VTubers.
The official Japanese social media account for High School DxD on X (formerly Twitter) has shared a hilarious clip from the latest episode of VTuber Legend: How I Went Viral After Forgetting to Turn Off My Stream. The clip in question comes from Episode 4, which focuses on VTuber streamer Awayuki Kokorone watching her genmates’ live streams while recovering from a brutal physical workout from playing a video game parody of Ring Fit Adventure. One of the streams Awayuki stumbles upon is of supporting character Hareru Asagiri raging over an anime-themed collectible card game.

High School DxD's Rias Gremory Makes a Surprise Appearance in the New VTuber Legend
In the clip, Hareru-senpai is playing a digital version of the real-life trading card game Weiss Schwarz. She actually plays with official cards from the anime crossover game, such as a card based on Haruna from Is This a Zombie?. Although Hareru-senpai pulls off an impressive strategy against her opponent, she’s outdone when her digital rival summons Rias to eliminate her life points in a hilariously risqué way. Hareru, who’s been trying to keep her innocent "kayfabe" up despite brief bouts of anger, completely loses it. To her online viewers, Hareru still appears sweet and innocent through her static Live2D VTuber model, despite being physically frustrated from the other side of the computer screen.
Although VTuber Legend often features parodies of real-life brands, such as the YouTube-inspired video service or the Live-On agency loosely based on hololive Production, the anime comedy surprisingly features actual video games like Sausage Legend and Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy. Before the High School DxD scene, Awayuki spots another VTuber friend about to play the visual novel School Days and gets caught up in the excitement with her over the series’ infamous ending, which ends on a "Nice boat" reference from the anime adaptation. VTuber Legend is also extremely faithful to the VTuber culture it’s parodying, made all the more apparent at the end of Episode 4 where Awayuki performs in a lyric music video with her colleagues -- which is animated like the real deal.
