What makes the “best” character in Fallout London

There’s no such thing as a “best” character in Fallout games, as there are countless playstyles to enjoy. Whether you want to be a ruthless sniper or a charismatic rogue with a silver tongue, there’s no wrong way to play, and that’s the beauty of Fallout London.

With this in mind, I’ll recommend a few conventionally powerful Perks and Traits. I’ll also recommend a few stats to invest in early.

If you’re reading this guide before installing the game, it can be a real pain to get everything working. Fortunately, there are easy fixes for most common problems.

Best Traits in Fallout London

You can choose from a modest selection of Traits during the character creation section at the start of the game. Here are some Traits you can use to get an early leg up without many downsides. I must stress that a big part of the fun in Fallout London is overcoming adversity. You don’t need the strongest build to have a good time.

Acrobat

Acrobat is a superb Trait as it grants a 10% boost to your movement speed. The downside is you lose 50 lbs to your carrying capacity, which is a noticeable downgrade.

Purloiners of London’s finest wares (hoarders) will immediately notice the carrying capacity reduction. That said, I appreciate the snappy movement speed. If you constantly get lost and need to backtrack like me, you’ll be happy with the extra spring in your step.

Hoarder

Hoarder is arguably the most impactful Trait in Fallout London. You gain a whopping 75 lbs additional carrying capacity, but can’t move while over-encumbered.

If you’re a bin raider, Hoarder is an essential Trait as the increase is significant. The only downside is if you’ve got a bag of top-tier loot, you may have to leave something behind.

Chem Head

Chem Head is a fun Trait. You lose 1 point in Special, but all Chems last 4x longer. This Trait is essential if you want to experiment with concoctions in Fallout London, and the lost point in Special could be worse.

Naturally, Chem Head is a wasted Trait if you avoid Chems.

Puritan

Puritan offers the reverse of Chem Head and is perfect for players who don’t want to use Chems or Alcohol. You gain +1 Strength and Endurance, but those bonuses reverse if under the influence.

The Puritan Trait is easy to get value from, and you won’t lose stats for using essentials like Stimpaks, Rad-X, and RadAway.

Best Perks in Fallout London

Perks usually offer straight buffs with zero downsides. The big difference between Traits and Perks is you’ll earn Perk Points as you level, while you pick your Traits at the start of the game.

Your perk choices depend massively on your Stats, so it pays to have a playstyle in mind during character creation. As with Traits, there are no “wrong” Perks to go for, but here’s a selection of potent ones to aim for.

Gunslinger

I love rocking a pistol in Fallout, and Gunslinger is the best perk to enable the playstyle. Gunslinger makes non-automatic pistols deal 20% more damage.

There are Perks like this for every weapon type, including Rifleman for Rifles, and Heavy gun for Heavy weapons. If you have a weapon preference, all these Perks are worth the investment.

Big Leagues

One of the most notable changes between Fallout 4 and Fallout London is the focus on melee combat. You can still gun sling with the best of them, but melee builds are a viable option in London.

With this in mind, Big Leagues is great as you gain 20% increased melee weapon damage. Bullets are precious, and Big Leagues makes your backup weapons more viable.

Slayer

Slayer has a hefty requirement of 10 Strength but increases the speed of your melee and unarmed attacks by 25%. This Perk is for players who lean heavily into close-quarters combat and pairs nicely with Big Leagues above.

The heavy investment into Strength makes Slayer more of a specialist Perk, but it’s incredible for you Berzerker wannabees out there.

Locksmith

I’m a sucker for lockpicking, so Locksmith is an essential Perk for me. Locksmith requires Perception Level 4 and allows you to attempt to pick Advanced Locks.

Most Perks on this list are arguably more impactful than Locksmith, but it “unlocks” an important part of the game for me, hence its inclusion.

Pickpocket

If the allure of lockpicking has locked you into a sneaky playstyle, you can’t go wrong with Pickpocket.

The Pickpocket Perk makes Pickpocketing 25% easier, improving your chances of getting away undetected. Many players won’t bother with Pickpocketing, but if you’re interested, you only require Perception Level 1 to unlock the Skill.

Life Giver

Life Giver increases your maximum health pool and may prove useful at higher difficulty levels. The Perk only requires Endurance Level 3, and it’s an easy way to bolster your defenses.

While you can’t recruit them immediately, several companions can accompany you around Fallout London if you don’t want to battle alone.

Best starting Stats in Fallout London

Your playstyle will dictate how you allocate your starting stats, but here’s what they do, and a few recommendations:

Strength

As guns are a little scarce in Fallout London, Strength is a great place to spend your starting points. You’re forced to engage in melee combat in Fallout London, and a few points in Strength ensure those encounters go your way.

Don’t sleep on the Big Leagues perk, which synergizes with this stat.

Agility

Agility governs how many Action Points (AP) you have in V.A.T.S and your ability to sneak. I enjoy sneaking, so Agility is an easy choice for me, but the Action Point increase is something most players will benefit from.

Luck

Luck affects the recharge rate of Critical Hits, which offer impactful DPS boosts in combat. The in-game description states that Luck measures your “general good fortune.”

I’m unsure if Luck functions differently in Fallout London compared to official Fallout titles, but the Critical Hit bonuses are incredible in the other games. I’ll be investing in my Luck stat on that basis alone.

If you fancy a collectathon, why not track down some Beer Coasters? These Beer mats aren’t just for show, and they offer permanent stat boosts if you can find them.
