Since HA already has a Tokyo base, does this mean we may finally see the ANC-NRT service at last? It is only 3400 miles. For Alaskans, that would be a beautiful hub to connect throughout Asia on JAL

The VX brand was licensed. The HA brand has a longer history, more equity, and is directly connected to destination being sold.

Does it make sense to sign up for Barclays Hawaiian airlines card and accumulate some points? The personal card for Hawaiian has a signup bonus of 60K for $2K of spend, whereas for Alaskan, it's 60K for $3K of spend. I assume the conversion will be 1:1, so the Hawaiian offer is slightly better.

Pilot scope clause allows for operations of unmerged but owned airlines up to 76 seats. If Alaska acquires an airline operating equipment greater than 76 seats the operations must be merged with a single pilot seniority list.

Apologies for not reading all the thread...
I have thought this was the last merger that still might work ... Jetblue/Sprit is just a cluster and not a merger IMO.
edit to add: One company with two major brands - AF/KL has been doing this for years.... it can work.

A couple of thoughts from an outsider (i.e. East Coaster) view:
- If I were an AS shareholder (I'm not), I don't know that I'd love this merger proposal. AS is about to pay a lot of money for...what? HA has been performing rather dismally, what am I getting for this premium price I'm paying? It's not for access to widebodies, AS can get widebodies if they want them without buying an airline. After overpaying for VX to keep it away from B6, do I now want to overpay for a money-losing HA operation too?
- If I were an HA shareholder (I'm not), then I'd probably be all for this. It's a great premium on last week's closing price and HA hasn't been performing well financially
- If I were an AS loyalist/west coaster/Seattle resident (I'm not), I'd be happy with the expanded network and the tease at the possibility of West Coast long haul flights (though again, a merger is not required for AS to launch long-haul)
- If I were a Hawaii resident and/or an HA loyalist (I'm not), I expect I'd be uneasy about the future of the airline/brand. Then again, I probably was already a bit uneasy based on the dismal financial performance of HA
- Regarding DOJ (I'm not lawyer nor a merger expert), they will of course look at this, but I'm not sure I see a strong case (at least initially) for trying to block it. There's a lot of competition to/from/within Hawaii and little barrier for entry for additional carriers/routes. The one issue I expect they may press is that HA would need to keep providing codeshares to other US airlines on inter-island routes

How are they going to resolve the obvious conflict in naming convention - Alaska Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines? Are they going to get rid of the extra “an”? Add an “n” to Alaska? This is just going to lead to so much confusion when Hawaiian loyalists come visit us in the Alaska Airlines forum.

This has been beyond a joke since the start.... Nothing when booking Mokulele talks at all about AS or Oneworld.... I just flew Mokulele last week and asked the lady if I could get AS miles and she looked at me with a blank stare. I honestly have no idea what the "relationship" even is. The only thing is I sometimes see some ridiculous routing off of Maui through HNL via Mokulele. At that point one would be far better to just hop over on WN or HA (something I do somewhat frequently). Price is usually < $40 one-way, there are no crazy baggage restrictions/fees and I'm airside when I land (Mokulele as a commuter airline you don't go through TSA).

Im glad it’s AS acquiring another carrier and not AS by acquired by a larger carrier. Can keep our MP number and status. The VX members really never made whole in the acquisition
